Gender Equality: Punishment For Differences In Wages

Many times we talked about the inequality between men and women are perceived in the wages paid in similar jobs with the same number of hours and responsibilities. We have also mentioned the efforts that are made from different sides (including government) to bridge this gap of inequality.

Indeed, this reality so marked and present for many years has been declining over the last decade and to accelerate the shortening of the gap, companies pay less to women than men for equal work, should be punished.

According to a survey of the CIS, the Spanish perceived gender inequalities in employment and over half (53%) feel that they are large or very large, although the majority (78.5%) shows that things have changed for about 10 years and now wage differentials are smaller but there.

In the same survey, respondents have spoken strongly in favor of equality between men and women, however, according to the latest barometer of the CIS, the majority of workers of both sexes detects that both wages and job promotion prospects, opportunities to combine work and family as well as access to top jobs in business are issues that remain restricted to women.

The reasons why women are not elected to positions of responsibility which are reserved for men are about family, work environment which is currently dominated by men and they do not trust their subordinates nor in their ability and training to perform tasks important positions.

In this sense, most respondents said they agree with the Government to take measures to force companies to facilitate the reconciliation of work and family life, so that women have access to any post work.

In fact, 64% of respondents choose to guarantee by law a balanced number of men and women on electoral lists and the high public positions (58%) and agree in thinking that the priorities would penalize companies that fail to equality and not to take measures to ease the working hours of men and women.

It is also almost unanimous support from respondents to implement a paid paternity leave and to facilitate the granting of loans to women entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs.

92% of respondents trust the power of the laws to change the inequality between men and women and believe that the law must be guaranteed.
